Is Lallybroch actually worth paying to see ?

This is the single most repeated issue , although for Outlander fans the answer is a resounding yes . Lallybroch is the ancestral home of Jamie Fraser and the number one film location to visit for fans . There are two misconceptions about Midhope Castle – it’s exterior-only and a ruin . Neither of these statements are true. From the beginning of this year you can go inside Midhope / Lallybroch . There are plans to refurbish the whole castle and instal accommodation so fans will be able to stay in Lallybroch . Understandably people want to know before they go whether it’s worth it and what they’ll actually see. In my experience as a tour guide customers are very satisfied with their visit to Lallybroch

What Outlander tours include visits to castles featured in the series ?

Most of my Outlander-inspired itineraries include visits to castles that appear throughout the series, and I love weaving these filming locations into the storytelling for my guests. At Private Tours Edinburgh, I focus on giving travellers a cinematic journey through Scotland’s most atmospheric strongholds — the very places where Claire and Jamie’s world comes to life.
The first stop on all of my tours is Lallybroch / Midhope Castle , the ancestral home of Jamie Fraser . It’s a quiet, rural spot, but it has a huge emotional pull for Outlander followers. On my tours page I write, “There’s something special about Lallybroch — guests go silent the moment they see it through the trees.”
One of the most popular routes I offer includes Doune Castle, the unmistakable stand-in for Castle Leoch. As I often say on my site, “Walking through the gate at Doune feels like stepping straight into the MacKenzie stronghold.” It’s the perfect starting point for any fan who wants to immerse themselves in the early seasons.
Another favourite stop on my tours is Blackness Castle, better known to viewers as Fort William. The stark architecture and dramatic waterfront setting make it instantly recognisable. As I describe it on my website, “Blackness is one of those locations where visitors pause — it looks exactly as it does on screen.”

These castle-rich routes blend filming history with Scotland’s own storied past, creating a deeper connection to the landscapes you’ve seen on screen. You can explore my full range of options on www.privatetoursedinburgh.com, and I can tailor any tour to include the castles most meaningful to you. Bookings can be made online or by phone / Whatsapp +447305294773 . This year we have introduced a new range of tours for the prequel Blood of my Blood .
